School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
School nursing practice embraces two professional disciplines- nursing and education. Children learn best when they feel safe, are attentive, energetic, happy and well. School nurses serve to ensure that students are able to learn by helping to identify, prevent and resolve health related factors which interfere with learning.
Each Nashoba Regional District School has at least one full time registered nurse who is also licensed through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Director of Health, Wellness and Safety and the School Physician are available for consultation.
