Last week, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health aligned with the CDC’s COVID-19 recommendations which were issued on March 1, 2024. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) adopted these recommendations, and in turn, Nashoba Regional School District began implementing these guidelines.
Under the new directives, individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 or any other respiratory virus are now permitted to return to their regular activities when they show an improvement in symptoms, effectively removing the mandatory five-day isolation period that was previously in place.
Further, the updated guidelines advocate for anyone exhibiting symptoms of a respiratory virus to refrain from attending school or any community activities until they have seen an improvement in their symptoms or have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medications. Additionally, the guidelines advise taking extra precautions for five days after recovering from a respiratory illness when interacting with others indoors. These precautions include maintaining good hygiene practices, wearing masks, practicing physical distancing, and undergoing testing when necessary.
The Nashoba Regional School District has made these changes accessible to all families and community members through a comprehensive Respiratory Virus Guidelines Document. This document outlines all the adjustments in detail.
