On Friday, June 11th, the Healey-Driscoll administration announced that it was awarding nearly $15 million in Skills Capital Grants across 65 Massachusetts high schools, colleges, and educational institutions; $75,000 of which will be awarded to our own Nashoba Regional High School.
Skills Capital Grants fund various student-oriented and future-focused improvements, such as technology upgrades and expansions of career programming for high school students. The funds awarded to Nashoba Regional High School will support the school's new Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Innovation Pathways Program through the purchase of high-quality, industry-standard equipment. Governor Maura Healey was quoted, “We want to ensure that what students learn in school helps them get where they want to go, while also meeting our workforce needs… These Skills Capital Grants will ensure our students and adult learners have access to innovative technology, equipment, and spaces to gain the skills they need to prepare them for successful careers in high demand industries.”
Starting in Fall of 2024, Nashoba’s Innovation Pathways Program will offer two pathways: Business & Finance and Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering. These fields have been identified as high-demand fields by the state of Massachusetts. Through these pathways Nashoba will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities through internships and capstone projects. With the support of strategic partnerships and local employers, participating students will gain early exposure to various career options, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future paths.
"We have received a high level of interest from our students, with 37 eager to participate in the first year of the Innovation Pathways Programming," said Laura Friend, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. "This enthusiasm underscores the importance of providing hands-on, real-world learning experiences that prepare our students for the future. This marks an important juncture for Nashoba as we work to foster an environment where students can explore their passions and develop the skills necessary for success beyond the confines of our school walls."
